  • Danielle Orantia

My practice pushes the boundaries between improvisation and physical theatre, bringing elements of clowning, mime, comics and painting as tools for expression and storytelling. I have been designing workshops and directing shows for different groups and festivals around the world.

Additionally I have run design workshops for schools with young children and teenagers from different countries and backgrounds. As a performer, I have toured the world with Speechless an improvised show without words. I am constantly creating collaboration projects with various groups and individuals looking for new, original ways of performing.

Workshops

All courses for participants with 3 years of improv experience.

workshop block 1 (sunday & monday)

Music improv for performers - Hannu Risku

How to spice up your improv show with music? How to find ways to sing together on stage? How to find relaxed improv mood for music as well? What to ask from the audience? How to use music in scenes? What happens to everyday scene in a barbershop if musician plays horror music? Can music make two aliens from outer space fall in love? What is Motown-choir? How to make a hit single and earn your first billion? How to make music only with the actors when musician went to a better gig?

In this workshop we concentrate on musical techniques and games that can be used in improv shows: songs, scenes that have music as an essential part, spontaneous songwriting, lyrics and melody, all kind of song structures and forms, choruses, background vocals, how to accompany an improv song (both for musicians and actors), different music genres and connection with the audience.

Fear as a friend - Danielle Orrantia

Surveys about fears commonly show stage fright at the top of the list, in some cases even more than the fear of death. This emotion, usually seen as negative and unpleasant is there for a reason. How can we get to know it? Can we embrace it? Can we be friends with it? And most importantly, can we learn how to use it?

workshop block 2 (tuesday & wednesday)

You had to be there - Victoria Bang

We have all experienced those “You Had To Be There!” moments. The unforgettable moments where we hold our breath with wonder, sigh with deep satisfaction or laugh out way too loudly. Those magical moments we try to recreate for our friends the next day, with all our brave attempts ending in, “You had to be there!"
But what are the elements of these wonderful scenes? Why are some scenes so memorable?

In this workshop, Victoria will guide you to play simple, structured scenes, with focus on different ways to build platforms and to find out what the scene really is about. We will study the patterns that appear and you will be coached in theatrical elements such as spacework and proximity, silence and stillness, and dynamic choices. By the end of this workshop, Victoria will have you telling people “You Had To Be There!"

Out of the game - Inbal Lori

Think of an impro game that you like, curious about or afraid of, then introduce it to us. Then let’s find out the most fun way to play it. Then let’s use our group mind to explore what else we can do with it:

use it in a scene, develop another cool technique out of it, crack the mechanism, change the patterns, find the focus and play with the volume! Let’s transform any ideas into creative improvisation.
Bring us a game and together let’s take it out of the game.

workshop block 3 (thursday & friday)

Knock knock, who's there? - Victoria Bang

Characters are an essential part of improv. And, since it's improv, we get to know the characters we play at the same time as we create them. What a challenge!
Are you avoiding to take on certain characters? Or do you tend to make the same choices over and over again?

Victoria will help you dig deeper into your own patterns of playing characters, and then let you work around those to discover how much more you can do!

It's going to be a lot of fun, and also quite a challenge! Character work is never finished and needs constant practice. But after this workshop, you will have more tools and methods to feel confident in your character play, making you a more diversed improviser in all aspects. Let´s create a character!

Get personal - Inbal Lori

How to specify and personalize your impro. What ever the scene is about, whom ever you play- you need to personalize and specify what ever you do in order to stay convincing believable and charismatic.

In this workshop we will work on how to find your character’s story, world, moods and relationships. In other words we will personalize your choices so that you will have more depth, tension and fun in your scenes.
